How to Effectively Use Social Media for Youth Recruitment

Well obviously this is different for each kid. It's also different for each account. I think that if your kid is not using it for recruiting also matters but If they have an account soley for recruiting then you may want to have an idea what's on all of them.

I know the kids love to have a "spam" account whatever that means. To me I think they think it's a fake account or somewhere they can hide photos they don't want everyone to see. The truth is that if it is on the net then everyone can see it. Take note.

I was talking with another parent who felt like she liked her daughter having her own account and she felt like it was empowering her daughter to be responsible and I totally get that. I think that as parents we all hold onto to the handle bars for a different amount of time. It depends on your relationship.

I will say this though, if you do not have access to monitor your Childs social media just understand that you are trusting that your child fully understands and can handle all that the world has to offer. Weather it be violence, sex or just all out adult behavior. For me I am not sure when the right time will be but I know it's not now while they live at home and are in High School. I assume that they are learning ways to hide stuff from Angel and I and that is all part of growing up. The best we can do is teach and learn together and be somewhat loving when they come to us with failures. We try are best to be a family who talks about almost anything together so that there are no taboo topics.

My kids do have their own accounts I just know the passwords. Same goes for their phones. I don't think of this as a diary or a journal but I try my best to respect their privacy like it is. As for recruiting accounts I like to be on a team with them and talk through posts and what is good and what is bad. More of a team effort.

With regard to recruiting it appears twitter is still king but IG , I see a lot more of softball players than baseball players using it for recruiting purposes. I am not sure what if any this means but I do know that the kids get a kick out of likes and views so if it makes them feel rewarded for their efforts out on the court or diamond then I am all for it.
