Try outs and team turnover.....

This one is simple. If you are a team that is good and you are a coach that is good why do you need to have try outs after every season? I'm talking rosters of 15,16 plus. Truth be told I am not sure where I land on this one. Turnover happens for a variety of reasons. Some time if not most it is us parents who move the kids for one reason or another. This then leads into the cycle of needing tryouts.

This is more directed at what I like to think of as the "Major" teams. If you are a major team and you constantly tout how great you and your players are then why are we constantly seeing you post for more players to come to you. Why not ride with the players who have dedicated themselves to you and your organization?

I know this seems like a weird convo to have but why not ask the coach you are trying out for "Why did you lose players or why did you cut players?" I imagine you will get a ton of answers but I would love to be the fly on the wall. I would love for just once a coach to say "You know I could have handled that better" Unfortunately we typically here about how that the player really is not a loss or the parent was this or that. Most times I am sure it's true but it cant always be the other person. Some coaches and organizations probably need to hold themselves a bit more accountable.

For instance our last team had the longest tenure of just bout anyone with regards to players. Coach was an absolute great coach. Staff was awesome to my kid and I had zero complaints. Unfortunately we left for zero reasons to do with them or the team. This blog is more about the team of 16,17,18 with all players coming back and yet the coaches are always looking for the next best thing.

I guess my point is to make sure you find a team that not only believes in your kid but is dedicated to making them better as opposed to just accumulating talent. If you are on a team of talent collectors just understand that and know that each season they will ask for other players to come and compete. I have no problem with competition. I think it is a great thing.
